Our priorities for the 2022-23 Victorian State Budget

Good Shepherd is pleased to present its priorities for the 2022-23 Victorian State Budget. The coming year brings hope and opportunity for Victoria after a period of enormous challenges. Women have disproportionately faced two years of heavy jobs/hours loss, vast unpaid care work, and increased family violence. Social and economic recovery offers the chance to not only repair but do better, and address the big deficiencies that have come to a head during the pandemic and left women and families vulnerable to financial, health and safety risks. There is a clear way forward.

Our budget priorities focus on financial wellbeing; family violence & economic safety; women’s housing equality; and women’s income security & workforce access.

The Victorian Government can make a real difference for women and families by:

  • Expanding place-based Financial Inclusion Action Plans
  • Helping families break free from energy debts by providing a one-off relief payment of up to $2000
  • Developing and funding an economic abuse strategy
  • Co-investing in an innovative, replicable housing model for women
  • Re-investing revenue windfalls in social & affordable housing
  • Backing financial capability programs that support women into housing
  • Delivering quality job support services tailored to women
  • Training skilled women for the net zero economy
  • Fairly funding social & community services to improve job security and pay for women
