Brimbank residents to be offered life changing services under the one roof in ground-breaking first

Wednesday 28 September 2022

Residents in Melbourne’s west will soon have access to a range of health and wellbeing services with the opening of the new Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre.

Alongside the centre’s Olympic-sized swimming pool, health club and cafe, Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand, commUnity+ and Distinctive Options will provide services aimed at improving the lives of community members as part of Brimbank Council’s ground-breaking approach to holistic health.

Good Shepherd CEO Stella Avramopoulos said she was thrilled to continue supporting the Brimbank and Melton community.

“After over 30 years, Good Shepherd is proud to continue to deliver much-needed support to those experiencing financial challenges through financial counselling and financial capability as well as providing family violence and family services,” Ms. Avramopoulos said.

We are also excited to be co-located in the centre, working in partnership with commUnity+ and Distinctive Options to deliver integrated services to residents in Melbourne’s west.”

commUnity+ CEO Tracey Gaudry said “Our vision is to bring all commUnity+ services together, with those of colleague BAWC organisations, into a shared space where every person who visits the centre – whether for a specific service or just ‘pops’ in – has a welcoming, safe, and positive experience.

“Together we can increase accessibility support through specialist and referral services, and enhance overall life outcomes for more people living in the west in a way that embraces their vibrant diversity and wide range of needs.”

Distinctive Options’ CEO Ernie Metcalf stated “our Brimbank participants with disabilities are very excited about having a base in the new Aquatic and Wellness Centre. With state-of-the-art facilities that are the envy of many other municipalities, our participants will enjoy using the Centre’s options as part of their way to enhance their lives and community engagement.

“As a base, this site offers a unique mixture of top-quality facilities located within a community precinct used by residents. We are delighted to share a space and partnership with the other community services, Good Shepherd, and commUnity+. The opening of the Centre is a landmark for Brimbank and the residents of this municipality.”

Good Shepherd, commUnity+ and Distinctive Options will be at Brimbank Council’s Community Open Day on Sunday 2 October from 12:00pm – 5:00pm to meet the community and talk about their services.
